UroDapter®-Pain-free Alternative to Catheters

The Urodapter was developed with the purpose of providing comfort and relief to individuals who are confronted with bladder diseases.

Uradapter is used for the treatment of:

  • Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome
  • Recurring urinary tract infections (rUTIs)
  • Post-cancer bladder conditions
  • Bladder Cancer Female

Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome

Indications

Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome (IC/BPS) is a chronic condition causing painful urinary symptoms that significantly impact patients' lives. It can hinder work, sexual activity, social interactions, and sleep. While there is no definitive cure, proper treatment can provide symptom relief and maintain a good quality of life. Unfortunately, only a small percentage of affected individuals are diagnosed, leading to more severe symptoms when diagnosed late. Urosystem aims to offer comprehensive solutions for IC/BPS patients, from diagnosis to multi-level treatment. IC/BPS demands increasing healthcare resources due to rising cases and long-term therapy.

Recurring urinary tract infections (rUTIs)

UTIs are common, affecting 60% of women and 12% of men. Recurrent UTIs can lead to bladder damage. Treatment often involves antibiotics or antifungals. Some propose restoring the bladder lining with substances like hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate. UroDapter® offers non-invasive medicine delivery for UTI treatment and prevention. However, it should not be used in cases of bacterial urethritis or shortly after sex or during menstruation due to infection risks.

Post-cancer bladder conditions

Hemorrhagic cystitis (HC) is bladder inflammation causing bleeding, often unrelated to bacterial infections. It can result from various causes, including chemotherapy and radiation for cancer treatment. Preventative measures like hydration and bladder irrigation are used, but their effectiveness is debated.

Treatment depends on HC severity. Mild cases may require hydration, diuretics, pain relief, and bladder medication. Severe cases may need intravesical treatment, lasting days to months.

Various agents prevent bleeding, but newer approaches focus on restoring the bladder's protective GAG-layer with substances like hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate. UroDapter® is noted as an effective method for administering these treatments.

Bladder Cancer Female

Bladder cancer is common, with about 550,000 cases worldwide annually. Intravesical instillation is used to treat non-muscle invasive bladder cancer and reduce recurrence. Common drugs include BCG and mitomycin, with gemcitabine and valrubicin as alternatives. Therapy lasts six weeks, followed by maintenance for 1-2 years. Some suggest a single instillation after bladder resection to lower recurrence risk.

Using UroDapter® for local chemotherapy could be beneficial, potentially preventing recurrence in the urethra. However, more clinical trials are needed.

In male patients, there's a concern that the drug may reach the testes if urethral pressure is high, requiring further research. In contrast, UroDapter® may be used safely in women due to differences in anatomy.

Female bladder instillation

The UroDapter should be properly installed within the urethral orifice. It is essential to delicately insert the UroDapter into the orifice to guarantee an effective seal, allowing fluid to flow directly into the bladder. By utilizing the UroDapter, there is no requirement for potentially uncomfortable deep insertion methods such as catheter usage. This device enables the direct administration of drugs and other liquids into the bladder, surpassing the need for oral drug administration.

Male bladder instillation

The UroDapter needs to be installed in the urethral orifice of the penis. The UroDapter needs to be put into the so that the fluid find the way straight to the bladder. By using the UroDapter, potentially painful deep insertion using a catheter is not needed. Direct treatment of drugs and other liquid into the bladder can be better applied. It can replace the treatment of drugs orally administered.

Reimbrusement

Hospitals and Private Practices can avail themselves of reimbursement codes specifically designed for bladder instillations involving catheters, which can also be applied to the UroDapter device.

These codes include the:

  • CTP-Code: 51700
  • HCPCS-Code: A4353
